In 2002
while attending W& M Angela began to volunteer at Williamsburg Food Bank ( A gift
from Ben) founded & run by the great Thumper Newman, who named the Food Bank
after his deceased son Ben. While working at the food bank she & Newman became
very close. Rumors of the two swirled in the college community and in January of
2004 Newman broke up with his wife & they were divorce a year later. Thumper
clearly cared about Angela setting up a web page in her honor on his web site.
Newman who was married at the time, was basically a living legend.
Newman was Considered by many as the best Basketball player to ever come out of
this region of the country. After his basketball days Newman made millions while
running a timeshare marketing company before founding the Williamsburg food bank.
Newman is said to be one of the most well known & respected people in the
community, " I don't know anyone who is more beloved or respected than Thumper
Newman." James Woods said." He is a amazing man ." The United Way
of the Greater Williamsburg area has estimated that more than three thousand
people each week receive food from A Gift from Ben food bank & that 1 out of
every 4 residence will receive some help from AGFB during the course of a year.
In 2005 Newman was approached by his good buddy John Bell about the plight of
the people in Malawi & there water problems. Newman & Bell then organized the
first Concert for Malawi- in 2006 drawing more than 6000 people. From there
efforts 4 water wells were built by Church World Service helping between three &
four thousand people obtain clean safe drinking water." Unfortunately
because of rain the 2009 concert was a bust & Newman lost money on the
project. But he is still considered by many as a living legend. My wife & I were talking
about Thumper last night ," say attorney John Tarley, " We don't know
anyone who has had such a tragic event in there life an turned it into such a
positive thing." In 2006 vice president Dick Cheney called Newman " a global
leader & a spiritual icon to millions."
But despite his humanitarian efforts Newman was deeply troubled by events in his
personal life." I could tell something was bothering him, I thought it was the
rain & then I heard about the e-mail." Blues singer Nellie "Tiger" Travis. "
"It seems more than just immature it seems like some type of
personality disorder" -Charlie

This is where the story takes a very strange turn.
After being apart for more than three years Angela began writing Thumper as
different people. First as Kevin Chamberland ( a GMU student ), then as Gela
Sakura & finally Angela Acevedo of Turkey.
The emails came from January 16th
2007 to November 17th 2010 ( 46 months ). Angela set up a phony Facebook page &
sent Newman Love Stories, religious e-mails & generally showed him the same love
an caring that she had done while at W& M.. Thumper was so sure it was Angela
was writing him that he began to return the e-mails by writing poetry to her.
Pages & pages of poetry that he later published on his web site, But at the same
time Angela was never able to speak to Thumper being herself, she always had to
pretend to be someone else.
" She ( Angela ) must be terribly conflicted to be doing these
things ". -John Bell W&M 07
Newman became so frustrated by the strange behavior
that he demanded that she stop contacting him pretending to be the Angela
Acevedo from Turkey & the e-mails Stopped. A month later Newman confronted
Ms Acevedo but all he
got were lies.
Newman who has lived a very eventful
life calls this story "the strangest story of his life , I have had a lot
of sleepless night wondering what the hell is going on & why is she doing this ?"
Rodney Tartine works for sister Agnes St Wagna's Adult home says" When you care
about someone who is mentally ill sometimes it is difficult to understand why
they do the things that they do." Many attempts were made to reach Ms
Acevedo for this story but she never returned any phone calls or messages. To this date Angela Acevedo
still keeps her phony facebook page and has
never come forward & admitted she was the one writing Thumper.
